The two-master Briggen Gerda will very likely leave the Swedish city of Gävle on June 17th 2010, according to local newspaper Arbetarbladet and Swedish national newspaper Aftonbladet on Thursday 17th of June 2010. The ship is said to have been sold to a Finnish shipping-company in Helsinki, via a car sales company in Gävle who bought it from the former owner: an association that went bankrupt. Briggen Gerda was launched in Gävle in 1868. During the past years Briggen Gerda was a main tourist attraction and corner stone of the tourist policy of the Gävle municipality. Choosing Welcome onboard as its slogan, the municipality thought of Briggen Gerda as a main part of a wanted nautic atmosphere that would attract tourist from Sweden and abroad to Gävle. Gävle is situated on the east coast of the country in a bay that leads to the Botnic Gulf (Bottenhavet).
